The Highest Honor: Turing Award Winners
Often called the "Nobel Prize of Computing," the ACM A.M. Turing Award is the highest distinction in computer science. Established in 1966 by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), it recognizes individuals for fundamental contributions that have shaped the field. Named after Alan Turing, a founding figure in computing and artificial intelligence, the award celebrates innovations that continue to influence research and technology today.

A Journey Through Time: Foundations of Computer Science
Computer Science didn't just happen overnight. It was shaped by decades of brilliant ideas, paradigm shifts and problem-solving breakthroughs. This timeline highlights some of the most privotal moments in the history of computer science from Alan Turing's pioneering work on the concept of a machine that could compute anything, to the birth of the World Wide Web and today's AI revolution.

Which research areas intrigue you the most?
The landscape of computer science research is constantly evolving. This plot shows the
percentage of papers published in various subfields over time (between 2001 and 2020).
Some traditional fields like computer networks have seen a gradual decline in percentage
while others like machine learning have experienced a rise in popularity, becoming the
dominant field in recent years.
Training models on large datasets challenges the limits of traditional computing, leading
to new innovations in areas such as distributed computing which, as you can see, has also
increased in popularity.

Top Research at a Glance
Now that we've covered the foundations and the major trends, let's highlight some specific
examples of highly influential work as evidenced by their citation count. We offer you an
interactive overview of their impact, authors and publication venues.
Influential papers in your favourite field
It's time to dive deep into your own interests. In this section, we identified major papers for different subfields and gathered papers that build upon them. This interactive cloud allows you to discover new papers, their impact and how the authors are connected to each other. AI & Data Science, Computer Systems and CS Theory are the major fields that we focused on. For each of them, we selected a number of subfields to explore.
Click on a word in the cloud and you will either be redirected to its subfields or to the graphs related to it. Make sure to click on a subfield (e.g. "Computer Vision").
From ideas to venues
We've grouped papers that built upon the original paper by publication venues so you can see how ideas spread and evolve.
