How it works

The map is always active — select features from the left panel to color countries and add bubbles. Click any country to see detailed statistics.

Choosing what to display

Select up to two features from the left panel:

• The first feature gets a color tag — it drives the choropleth country coloring.
• The second numeric feature gets a bubble tag — countries get proportional bubbles sized by that metric.
• Categorical features (e.g. dominant disaster type) can only be used for color.

Bubble mode

When two numeric features are selected, bubbles appear over each country. Hover a bubble to see its value. Click a bubble to open the country detail panel.

Continent panel

In bubble mode, clicking on a continent's background (not a bubble) opens a side panel comparing all countries in that continent.

Filtering

• Use the timeline slider at the bottom to filter by year or year range. Click the year label to jump to a specific year, or press ▶ to animate through time.
• Use Filter by disaster type in the left panel to focus on specific categories.

Country panel

Click any country on the map to open a detail panel showing total disasters, deaths, economic damage, a timeline chart, and a breakdown by disaster type — all filtered by your current selection.
