This heatmap shows how often is each square of the board occupied. The darker the square, the more often players set a piece onto it. Use the buttons to choose the range of ELO (an indicator of a player's level) used as input data.

Notice how the of the board is more prized by higher level players than beginners. It is indeed often missed by new players: you should always try to control the center of the board. Center control yields greater over the board and a greater for your pieces.
