Introduction
Our goal is to develop an engaging and informative web-based platform that presents data-driven visualizations of global and regional trends in smoking and chewing tobacco prevalence from 1990 to 2019. By utilizing high-quality datasets published by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), we aim to provide valuable insights into the differences in tobacco use across genders, age groups, and countries, as well as the associated health implications. Our visualizations are designed to engage public health professionals, policymakers, researchers, and the general public interested in tobacco control, health promotion, and disease prevention.
About
The motivation behind our project stems from the urgent need to combat the global tobacco epidemic and its severe impact on public health. Despite widespread knowledge about the harmful effects of tobacco, millions of people continue to smoke, leading to devastating health outcomes. Tobacco usage is responsible for a wide range of diseases, including cancer, respiratory disorders, cardiovascular conditions, and premature death. Through this project, we hope to raise awareness about the prevalence and impact of tobacco use, supporting informed decision-making and inspiring action towards a healthier future.
